Fruitcake The Movie Featuring Collin Street Bakery

Will Ferrell and Laura Dern to Portray Sandy and Kay Jenkins in ‘Fruitcake’

CORSICANA, Texas – August 6, 2019 – Hollywood mainstays Will Ferrell (“Anchorman”, “Elf”, “Step Brothers”) and Laura Dern (“Jurassic Park”, “Big Little Lies”, “Star Wars”) will star in the film “Fruitcake based on true events at Collin Street Bakery headquartered in Corsicana, Texas.

The announcement was made on May 15th by Mike Fleming from Deadline.

The movie’s plot centers around lowly-accountant Sandy Jenkins (Ferrell) and his wife, Kay (Dern), who embezzled over $17 million from Collin Street Bakery – which led to a lavish lifestyle that attracted much attention from suspicious neighbors in the small Texas town. The embezzlement took place from December 2004 to June 2013.

In September 2015, Jenkins was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Kay was put on probation and ordered to 100 hours of community service.

The film’s director, Max Winkler - Henry Winkler’s son (“Flower, “Ceremony”), called Trey Selman’s “Fruitcake” script "original and dynamic and unlike anything [he'd] read before."

Fruitcake will begin filming in early 2020. Dern will produce the film alongside industry veterans Jordan Horowitz (“La La Land”), Jayme Lemons (“Antiquities”), Adam Kolbrenner (“Prisoners”), and Red Sanders (“Melville”) with additional help from Bob McNutt, Collin Street Bakery’s current CEO and President.
